Chemainus, this magical oceanside village is a rare jewel on Vancouver Island. Chemainus is a favourite destination, full of charm, gingerbread cottages, and beautiful gardens. Chemainus brims with artistic spirit.
It was 1981 when the people of Chemainus invited internationaly known artists to use the town as a canvas. Today, more than 33 murals and 12 sculptures depict the town's history, people and future.
In Town Activities
- self-guided tour of the murals - follow the yellow footprints in a journey of Chemainus' colourful past
- town tour- either by steam train or horse drawn carriage
- Chemainus Theatre- live theatre with restaurant, and gallery featuring BC artists & artisans
- Chemainus Valley Museum- featuring the 'maquettes' of the original murals, and artifacts of our regional history
- Weyerhaeuser Mill Tours - state of the art, environmentally friendly mill- tours in summer only
- Buskers- performing downtown throughout the summer
- Askew Wilderness Park- a Rainforest hike, right in town!
- McMillan Waterwheel Park- in the middle of town, restoration of heritage park - themed children's play area, Bandshell housing many performances, preservation of native plant life, historical plaques and locally carved animals - look far up in the trees!
- Golf- exceptional 18 hold golf course at Mt. Brenton, year round
- Water activities- boating, kayaking, fishing charters,
